Dialogue with the Ghana Standards Board (GSB)

The National ICT Policy and Plan Development Committee dialogued with the management and staff of the Ghana Standards Board on the 15th November 2002 as part of the National Consultative exercise aimed at developing an ICT-driven socio-economic development policy and plan.

Some of the key Comments & Contributions

  • The Government was urged in the formulation of an ICT Policy and Plan for the country to seriously address issues of Standardization to make sure Products conform to standards.
  • The needed infrastructure and facilities should be put in place. The Government should furnish its agencies and the Public Sector with the requisite facilities to help them catch up with the information age.
  • There is the need to address issues relating to how ICTs can be used to improve the daily activities of individuals and institutions for the socio-economic development of the country.
  • Considering the low level of manpower there is the need for Government to consider ways of deployingresources for the training of the requisite manpower to facilitate the country’s development.
  • Human Resource is the key for the socio-economic development of the nation and this should be given a priority within the policy.
  • ICTs would be important in the monitoring of the importation of illicit drugs and in the analysis of these drugs.
  • There is the need to link up all the vital sectors of Government to other international bodies for easy access to information and technology for accelerated development. This would help to enhance the Government initiatives and e-commerce.
  • The Government should encourage Research and Development (R&D) especially in the area of Science and Technology.
