    The National ICT4AD Consultative Pocess

Dialogue with the Bank of Ghana (BOG)

The National ICT Policy and Plan Development Committee met with some top officials of the Bank of Ghana on the 10th October 2002 as part of the National Consultative exercise aimed at developing an ICT-driven socio-economic development policy and plan.

Some Highlights of the Issues Raised

  • Problems related to the supply side of the ICT industry would need to be addressed for ICT to be of benefit to all, the procedure in obtaining telecommunication facilities must be simplified.
  • The Bank recognized the important role ICT could play in making them more effective and efficient in delivering services to the country.
  • The policy process must address issues related to the poor quality of service within the ICT industry in order to promote the development of the sector.
  • The importance ICT to the financial institutions is very important since the success of e-commerce in the country depends on it.
  • The Private Sector must get involved in the development of the necessary Human Resource.
  • There is the for a good national communication backbone to facilitate the rapid deployment of ICTs in to all corners of the country.
  • Research and Development should also be another area of importance to the country; the scope of Research must be broadened.
  • Issues related to data handling as it affects the operations of financial institutions would need to be addressed within the content of the deployment and exploitation of ICTs to facilitate delivery of Banking and Financial services to the public.
