    National ICT Policy and Plan Development Committee

    The National ICT4AD Consultative Pocess

Dialogue with the State Owned Enterprises (SOE’s)

As part of the pre-framework Consultation exercise, the National ICT Policy and Plan Development Committee met with the State Owned Enterprises on Wednesday, 11th December 2002.

The meeting was attended by representatives from the various State Owned Enterprises in the country.

 Some Highlights of the Issues Raised

  • Effective deployment and exploitation of ICT’s within the economy and society will require reliable Infrastructure (Communication and Power).
  • It is necessary to involve the youth in the development process.
  • There is the need for organizations to appreciate the potential of the Computer and their impact on improving productivity and efficiency within the organizational setup.
  • To ensure the effective rollout of ICT’s in the Public Sector, there is the need to foster collaboration and dialogue between the State Owned Enterprises and agencies.
  • The question of inter-connection between the various telecommunication service providers will need to be addressed to improve quality of service to the public. (QoS)
  • ICT Policy should be woven around Ghana’s cultural and traditional values.
  • Computer studies should be made compulsory at the Junior Secondary School level.
  • The Policy should take into account the rapid changes and development in the ICT industry. The Policy should be flexible enough to capture the dynamic nature of the Industry.
  • The ICT for development process should go beyond commitment;the championship of the process would therefore be critical
