Public Forum at Takoradi Polytechnic
The National ICT Policy and Plan Development Committee had a public forum at Takoradi Polytechnic on Thursday 24th April 2003 as part of the National Consultative exercise aimed at developing an ICT-driven socio-economic development policy and plan.
Prof. Clement Dzidonu, Chairman of the National ICT Policy and Plan Development Committee, made a presentation.

Some of the key Comments & Contributions
- Emphasis must be placed on programmes relative to students specific field of study.
- There is the need to introduce more practical programmes in the educational syllabus as well as the introduction of ICT programmes from the basic to tertiary level.
- There is the need to address issues relating to human resource development from basic school levels of education since the development and implementation of the ICT policy demands requisite human resource.
- There is the need to introduce compulsory literacy programme at all institutions and in all polytechnics. There should also be ways and means of deploying the needed ICT facilities to all tertiary institutions, which would enhance technology these institutions.
- It is essential for the policy to deal with issues relating to human resource development especially in the rural sectors of the economy to enable them to be abreast with the changes going on in the country.
- It is important to include funding of Research and Development and Industrial support in the policy
- There is the need for the Committee to demystify the myth surrounding computer science programmes.
- It is important that the Government supports and modernizes the Agricultural sector by deploying ICT infrastructural facilities to the sector to increase export revenue base for the development of the economy.
